Cats and Dogs

I feel i should be making the most of evening fishing , but on all but a few occasions this season ive felt uninspired to do so, the reason being that it's just been too cold for evening  fly hatches. Well at long last the muggy conditions have arrived, so i left the house at 6pm to fish my local, which was still falling from a big spate , when i left there was light rain i didnt even bother about a jacket.
as the water was big i put on a large klink and at the shallow head of the first pool i took four fish , the best the first at 1 1/4lb.

Ater that the rain came on and then a monsoon was upon me. I upped the fly size again put on a Longshank Stimulator , and still the fish came, i then tried a bugger but it didn't work and somewhere in the fly change i lost my stimulator so had to rake for another suitable fly, in the end i settled for a big thick winged dirty polly, and it took the bulk of my fish n the evening, eventually the rain subsided but i was soaked through and it was now cold .

Before calling it a night i checked in on the pond to see if any fish activity , young Keiron had set up for the night after one of the elusive carp. Unfortunately i'd dropped my last wooly bugger so had to use a nymph , perch was the target , and they never let you down as small as they are. After a blether with Keiron, i made it home for 10:15pm.

  1. Once you get that wet chill it's over. The browns will warm things up a bit.

  2. thinking i'll become a fair weather angler Alan, mind you if i did i wouldnt be out at all over the last few weeks. lol Hopefuuly we should get a break in this awfulweather soon.

  3. Aye its not all been cigars all round Col. With this weather its been a tough June. We all want a better July, was out last night a really nice sesh with a good few small Bass off the surface for the first time this year. I'm back on the ST Tuesday night as I'm away from home and yet more easterlies and rain... as you say not much to inspire us.

  4. Yeh Martin , just got the forecast for the next few weeks depressing really, off to Hayling island for a crack at the bass on the fly and hopefully mullet in a fortnight, fingers crossed the weather finally bucks the current trend.

    1. Nice one both nice fish to take on a fly. You would have been able to take Bass on the mark on Sunday within distance and on it!

If you fancy a sesh this year down the SW we could do it. Kyle if Tongue you would get both ST and Bass around now, defo worth a visit.

Had a tremendous night on the ST last night as well great tides this week...

  5. I noticed you've been hammering out those seatrout! i'll keep in mind the south west mark and kyle of tongue and get back to you, your guidance would be appreciated!
    Thanks Col

  6. No worries, its been good fun and 95 % go back and all above board and ticketed (for anybody else looking in !)

Think you would be in your element up the Kyle with ST and Bass on the fly, doubt I will be back up this year but certainly will be in 2013. Happy to assist...
